18 years’ experience in the fire alarm industry with knowledge and experience of commissioning and maintenance of fire detection, extinguishing, voice alarm systems, nurse call/refuge and emergency lighting systems, gained on various projects; including NHS, MoD sites, Industrial, Retail, Domestic, Education and nuclear UK and abroad. This also includes Fire detection and suppression systems used in the offshore wind energy industry.
My hobbies include DIY, Camping, stand up paddle boarding and fishing.

Outside of work I like to keep fit. My main hobby is running, but I also enjoy cycling and walking.

I have worked in life safety design for over ten years, originally starting as a CAD engineer. From here I progressed into a design engineer role and then into design management where I currently am. I am passionate about what I do and enjoy pushing those around me to find innovative solutions to problems.
Outside of work I spend my time with my family, enjoy travelling and flying drones.
Ian Wilson
Time served Approved Electrician (with electrical Technician level qualifications) with a career that spans almost 4 decades in both the Electrical and Life Safety Systems industries.
Progressing from a ’hand’s on’ installation apprentice to fully qualified engineer, working initially in the Electrical industry and eventually migrating extensive skill set into the Life Safety System sector. Within a few years developing into an estimating role, and further expanding my knowledge and experience which has now been for the predominant part of my career into design and consultancy.
Out of work I am a very keen aviator when time and other family commitments permit, having held a Private Pilots Licence for nearly 30 years accumulating nearly 600 flying hours in that time.
Joe Williams
I have worked in the fire alarm industry for the last few years, starting as a CAD Engineer before moving across to Design whilst working on a wide and interesting range of projects. In my spare time I enjoy playing and watching sports, walking and singing in a local choir. My wife and daughter also keep me entertained!

Mike Bryne
I have spent almost ten years within the Construction Industry as an Engineer, working various roles through to Design Engineering, designing various systems not specific to Fire, for half of that time. I developed the want to tailor my skills to a specific industry (fire), following being so interested in the number of forms of detection for various risks.
I have a strong passion for cars and find myself cleaning or tinkering my campervan in my spare time, if I’m not walking my dog!

I have more than 25 years’ experience in the UK Nuclear Industry and a proven track record of creating effective, efficient and well-managed hard copy and electronic document and records repositories to meet the obligations of Nuclear Site Licence conditions and information security requirements. I am also experienced in Training, Competency Management and Contract and Finance Management. I enjoy time with my family, and love to travel; in particular taking cruises in hotter and sunnier climates!
Muhammad Idris
I have spent over a decade in the fire and security industry, mainly in design. I have a master’s degree in Business Administration and a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. I am a certified Project Management Professional from PMI and an FIA Advanced Designer.
Outside my work, I spend my time with family and keep my two lovely boys engaged in sports.

I have only been a CAD Engineer for a couple of years. I started out on a CAD Apprenticeship, and continued as an engineer once my course finished.
I‘m very much an indoors person, so I spend the majority of my time playing video games on my PC or watching TV. If I do end up outside, I’ll be hanging out with my dog.

I have been in the fire and security industry for over 2 decades. Played almost all technical roles in different projects from estimation to handover with main focus on commissioning and detailed pre-construction design. My projects covers building like data center, commercial offices, shopping malls, high rises and listed buildings in different parts of world.

BEng graduate of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Dundee and delighted new boy to the fire alarm industry. I am passionate about control systems design and intrigued by automation, since graduating I have expanded my skill set by learning various programming languages.
In my spare time I enjoy film, photography, playing my guitar, bouldering and exploring the great outdoors with friends!

Since I started College I knew I had an interest in Design work, from the first time using CAD software to the first time I went through a whole design process for my own project, I have loved it. I am currently an apprentice with DEF and looking to work up to a fully fledged design engineer. My favorite side of working with DEF is definitely the CAD work. I enjoy going to the gym, playing video games and motorbikes.

I am new to the fire alarm industry. After previous experience as an Electrical and Mechanical Draughtsman within the military. I was excited when I got the opportunity to join DEF as a Design Engineer because of the positive learning culture within the company. I enjoy working for DEF in the fire industry and hope to grow within the company into a more senior role, working on a variety of exciting projects. Outside of work I enjoy long distance running and going to watch live football matches.

I have been involved in the fire alarm industry for 4 years, in Istanbul I worked on big scale projects such as factories, data centres etc. During this period, I have developed myself in fire alarm design which became a passion to me. My hobbies are; board games, video games, archery, painting, sculpturing and outdoor sports.

I started out as a Site Secretary, but have been in HR for over 20 years. The Construction industry has afforded me the opportunity to visit some amazing and technically complex sites across the world, including nuclear fusion research facilities, power plants, and cancer research centres. I like to find innovative solutions for the delivery of HR and I’m a huge fan of technology. I devote all my spare time to my family and our two dogs, enjoy gardening and baking and spending hours building Lego models!

20 years experience working in planning project controls specialising in experimental first of a kind projects. I have provided planning best practises for British Airways, Rolls-Royce and EDF which are still in use. I enjoy problem solving and meeting new people. Outside work, I’ve planned and built my own house. Hobbies include DIY, PC gaming and spending time with my family.

I am a time served apprentice, with over 30 years’ experience in Engineering, mainly quality and inspection, in the nuclear industry.
When I have free time, I enjoy baking, keeping fit (circuit training!) and gardening.

I have held various roles within the industry ranging from installation, service and maintenance, fault finding and technical support, design, and sales. I have worked in many sectors ranging from domestic, retail, commercial, industrial, education, healthcare, environmental, energy, MoD across the UK, and Europe and now Nuclear. I’ve been working in the fire alarm industry for over 18 years and had various roles from Maintenance/Install, Design (FIA Advanced Designer),Commissioning (FIA advanced Commissioning) and Operations Manager/Project Manager. For the last five years I’ve been a Business manager for a national fire alarm company giving me vast experience of the fire alarm industry. During my career I’ve worked on Fire Alarm systems, Fire Extinguishers, Gas suppression, Emergency lighting, Nurse Call, Disabled Refuge and PA/VA systems.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and keeping active by playing various sports.

Dominic Drew
After graduating from UWE studying aerospace engineering, I took some time out to coach Waterskiing & Wakeboarding. These are a big passion of mine and loved working to develop the skills of everyone that I helped. I then happened upon the fire & security industry as a local company were looking for CAD engineers. I have since developed further into more leadership positions at which point, I was approached to be Lead CAD Engineer. I have ridden motorbikes for years and keep myself fit and healthy by going to the gym regularly. When the weather is not so nice I’m in playing video games.

I have worked in the Fire & Security industry over the last four years, originally starting out as a Sales & Design Administrator which then presented the opportunity to develop and progress into a Design Engineer. I particularly love to see the whole lifecycle of a project, from initial design stage through to install and completion. Outside of work I would describe myself as a social butterfly as I love spending time with my partner, family and friends. I’m passionate about cars and motorsport, been an F1 fan since I was 8 years old. I enjoy playing golf and travelling (especially for an F1 race).

I progressed from ‘site based’ to ‘office based’ in 1996 becoming an estimator for 2 years before moving into Supervisory and Management roles. Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family, walking, fishing, DIY and watching TV.

I have worked in the design and engineering industry for over 20 years, predominately as a CAD Engineer and BIM Specialist on many large-scale global projects, eventually moving into life safety systems design at Heathrow and Gatwick Airport whilst achieving the FIA Advanced Designer Award. Outside of work I very much enjoy photography, kayaking, the gym, as well as partaking in any number of sports with my three boys.

I have been in the fire alarm industry for over 30 years, starting out as an apprentice fire alarm engineer, eventually moving into commissioning, then design and project management whilst expanding into PA/VA, CCTV, security and access control.
I take great pleasure in solving problems and learning new things. When I am not at work, you’ll find me out walking my dog or doing DIY! I also love to knit and crochet.

I’ve contributed to various nationwide projects in the Middle East and hold certifications in designing Clean Agent Fire Suppression Systems. Beyond work, I enjoy sports, movies, cooking, and spending quality time with my family while staying fit through badminton.
